After 6 years in Army Band, became free-lance pro in London during ' 60s & '70s .Well sought- after session player- appearing on albums by John Dankworth, Mike Gibbs,Kenny Wheeler, Ray Russell ,Ian Carr' Nucleus and all the London luminaries of the time. Worked with 3rd stream Composer Gunther Schuler performing his massive Opera " The Visitation " for the BBC.
Had a trio in '67 with Danny Thompson- Bass, and John Mc Laughlin-Guitar which resulted in "Danny Thompson trio Live in 1967", just before John McLaughlin went to USA to record with Miles Davies.
70s till present touring and recording with John Renbourn( The Lady and the Unicorn,The Black Balloon plus the Renbourn Group Albums ; Maid in Bedlam,The Enchanted Garden, Live in America, Ship of Fools).
The '80s saw Tony teaming up with Danny Thompson, who he had known since they were both members of Brit R&B Legend Alexis Korner's Blue's Incorporated in the '60s, to form the trio "Whatever" with Bernie Holland. Several Albums ensued; Whatever, Whatever Next, Elemental , culminating in a joint collaboration with Folk/Rock musician Richard Thompson in the Album " Industry"
Currently lives in West Dorset to where he moved 15 years ago. Spends his time "wood-shedding" composing and researching music of all types. His Interest in Indian Classical Music led him to conceive the group Na-Da and produce the Album "Breath of Fire" . Since the arrival of Ray D'inverno into Bridport area, have instigated a regular weekly rehearsal and research day, which we hope will lead to recordings and live gigs as a Duo or more. Ray's page is at www.myspace/rayd39inverno Check him out
